Pickford Residence
LIVE, WORK, & PLAY.
Looking toward the future for their growing family, the Pickford residence clients approached AAHA studio to help design their dream home that would not only satisfy their functional needs, but become a gathering place for the neighborhood.
Drawing on mid-century influences with clean, contemporary lines, this five bedroom, four bath home provides ample space for live, work, and play. One of the primary objectives for the house was to give every interior space a meaningful connection to the outdoors. Each deck or terrace is an extension of the interior space allowing for a seamless flow throughout the home while the roof deck is a reprieve from he city lights allowing a peak at the stars on a clear night.

“
Aaron and Harper were trusted partners from start to finish. They fully listened to everything we wanted, examined what we described as our lifestyle with three young kids (two kids when we started), and probed to uncover what our aspirational style was. We wish the best of luck to AAHA Studio on their future projects and would easily recommend them as architects for remodeling or new constructions.

ENTRY PERMITTED
If you’ve ever walked into a house with any number of kids in tow, you’re familiar with the chaos that explodes upon entry. At Pickford, we created an “anti-mud room” that not only doubles as a beautiful, double-height entry with Tom Dixon pendants hanging above, but grants ample space for shoes, backpacks, coats, bags, or whatever other surprises may be dragged along.
Take a seat on the stadium-style staircase to untie shoes and hang your backpack up in the family lockers, you’re home now.

PALETTE CLEANSER
A smooth Santa Barbara stucco facade is complimented by accents of ipe wood cladding, heartland split-face stone veneer and black aluminum window frames and roof accents.
In many cases, the architecture serves as a backdrop to the expertly curated landscape (by landscape designer, Susan Taylor) that is allowed to grow wildly up the street-facing facade and down from the various roof planters above. By design, as the foliage continues to grow, a natural sense of privacy will blossom giving new life to the interior spaces as they are surrounded by greenery.
