Looking to bring a unique home to market in the saturated neighborhood of Venice, a boutique developer tasked us with turning the dilapidated 1940’s bungalow into a unique property exemplifying California living.

VENICE, CALIFORNIA

By moving the front entrance from an overgrown side yard to the ipe-clad, louvered front facade, we were able to re-orient the house around a new focal point: the central courtyard. With references to the case study houses of the 1960’s and precedents from Neutra, Eichler, and other quintessential mid-century architects, this courtyard is a transition space that provides refuge from the street while also allowing a seamless flow between inside and out (not to mention this courtyard used to be the living room!)

The rest of home is set up to allow for maximum flexibility and the lively living of a multi-generational family. A large open kitchen fitted with custom millwork is the center of the home with access to the entry courtyard, the open great room, and the large bi-fold doors to the spacious backyard. Each ensuite bathroom has a unique design and fully custom millwork while the generous master suite makes for the perfect refuge.
